$4M Navy Fleet Integration Contract Awarded to DHi

Arlington, VA (March 9, 2007)—The U.S. Navy's Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) has awarded a $4M fleet integration contract to Defense Holdings, Inc. (DHi).  Work under this contract will include procurement installation and installation of the company’s unique metal fiber brushes (MFBs) on U.S. Navy submarines. DHi will also provide technical and engineering support to the Navy on this contract.

Replacing conventional, monolithic carbon brushes with MFB technology will improve the performance of the Navy's existing electrical rotating machinery while reducing its cost to maintain electrical motors and generators. Perhaps most significantly, the new technology will significantly reduce the sailor’s maintenance burden, thus freeing valuable personnel for more critical tasks while reducing maintenance overhead and downtime.

Use of MFB technologies will also improve operational availability while serving as a stepping stone toward future innovations in advanced motor technologies. MFBs can achieve significantly less heating at the brush, dramatically less mechanical wear, and an order of magnitude less wear debris formed. Furthermore, MFB wear debris does not conduct electricity nor does it react with lubricants or other compounds in the machinery, unlike carbon brushes.

DHi is a world-class team of dedicated engineering professionals committed to developing and deploying innovative technologies to advance the national interest and improve the lives of all Americans.
